HISTORY OF HUMAN ACTIVITY: The United States Geological Survey and the University of California, Davis are testing human-made islands that provide shelter for the Clapper Rail at high tide. Initial findings show that birds are using the islands.
FUN FACT: On the other side of the island, Save The Bay and our partner organizations have planted more than 2000 gumplant seedlings to help foster natural habitat on the other side of the island. These approaches to creating habitat are two of the many ways that humans are working to protect bird species in the Bay!
