Brown Pelican
(Pelecanus occidentalis)

HABITAT: The brown pelican lives primarily in warm coastal marine habitats and estuaries; it  is seldom found inland.

DIET: Brown pelicans typically eat fish such as smelt and anchovies, as well as some crustaceans.

PREDATORS: Adult pelicans do not have any natural predators, though chicks may fall victim to gulls, skunks, and feral cats.

FUN FACT: The brown pelican is the only pelican that dives from the air into the water to catch its prey.
