Lined Shore Crab
(Pachygrapsus crassipes)

HABITAT: The lined shore crab lives in the sandy and muddy bottom of the San Francisco Bay. You can also find the crab hiding in crevices and under rocks.

DIET: The crab eats other crabs, limpets, small fish, algae, and diatoms (unicellular organisms).

PREDATORSShorebirds, anemones, fish, and raccoons eat this type of crab.   

FUN FACT: If threatened by predators without an easy means of escape, this crab will aggressively fight for its life.
